Mercedes Vito W447 L2H1 conversion by Roadstore: grey Exokit, Victron electrical system, and onboard plumbing

Following the Ford Transit Custom recently showcased, Julien from the Roadstore workshop in Cossé-le-Vivien, near Laval, is back with another meticulously crafted conversion. This time, it's a long-wheelbase, metallic grey Mercedes Vito W447 that the workshop has completely transformed. This project was technically more ambitious, involving the full integration of plumbing, electricity, and a refrigeration system, all structured around our van furniture kits in an elegant grey finish.

The Mercedes Vito W447: A well-utilized intermediate format

The long-wheelbase Mercedes Vito W447 holds a unique position in its range. Mercedes designates it as L2H1, but its length falls between the typical L1 and L2 formats of most other manufacturers—making it a vehicle that is both compact for city driving and spacious enough inside for living. On this metallic grey model, Julien skillfully exploited every available inch to create a structured, comfortable, and technically accomplished van conversion.

Demanding natural insulation, felt finish

As with his other conversions, Julien first meticulously handled the thermal and acoustic treatment of the vehicle. The chosen protocol combines two proven natural materials:

  • Soliège sprayed cork directly applied to the bodywork, to block condensation and provide the first level of insulation
  • Sheep wool filling the cavities, for genuine thermal comfort in all seasons

The interior finish is provided by felt, which covers the pillars, wheel arches, and residual surfaces with a soft texture and effective sound absorption. This combination of natural materials is now a signature of Roadstore conversions, and it perfectly aligns with the quality approach we champion at Exokit.

The Exokit lining pack for Mercedes Vito and ceiling slats

To structure the interior, Julien installed our complete lining pack for Mercedes Vito in an oiled grey stained finish. This pack includes the floor, side panels, and ceiling, all machined to fit the W447's geometry precisely, without approximate cuts or adjustments during installation.

For the ceiling, Julien replicated a technique already praised in other Roadstore projects: wood slats glued to the surface to create a warm and refined visual effect. In this metallic grey interior with grey and black furniture, these slats provide the natural touch that prevents the overall look from appearing too cold or too stark. The result is chic, discreet, and instantly recognizable.

The classic bench and right side cabinet

At the heart of the conversion, Julien installed a classic Exokit bench accompanied by a right side cabinet, all in an oiled grey stained finish. The bed cushions and table, meanwhile, received an oiled black stained finish, creating a strong contrast that visually structures the space without making it feel heavy.

This grey-black two-tone combination is one we are seeing more and more among our partner workshops. It gives van conversions a contemporary character and a high-end finish impression, while remaining understated and easy to live with day-to-day.

In the right side cabinet, Julien integrated a compact sink with a switch faucet and two jerry cans: one for fresh water, the other for greywater collection. A clean solution, without unnecessary complexity, sufficient for hand washing, light dishwashing, and daily hygiene.

The rear left column: The technical heart of the conversion

The Exokit rear left column, for its part, houses the entire onboard technical system. Julien carefully integrated:

  • An Isotherm CR 42 compressor refrigerator, renowned for its reliability and low power consumption
  • A Victron BMV 712 battery monitor, for precise real-time tracking of the charge status
  • An external P17 socket for mains connection when stationary, via a campsite or terminal
  • The heating control, accessible and well-positioned for intuitive use

This grouping in the rear column is an approach we appreciate: all critical equipment is located in one place, interventions are simple, and the rest of the interior remains completely clear. This is exactly what the modular design of our van furniture kit allows—a structured base that gives the workshop complete freedom to integrate its preferred technical equipment.

A complete, coherent, all-season converted van

This Mercedes Vito W447 converted by Roadstore is a complete project in the fullest sense of the term. Natural insulation, refined lining with ceiling slats, functional plumbing, robust electrical management, quality refrigeration: nothing has been left to chance. The grey-black palette gives the whole a strong visual unity, reinforced by the warmth of the wooden ceiling slats.

This is also what a long-term collaboration between a workshop and a manufacturer produces: Julien knows our products, anticipates adjustments, and knows how to assemble our kits with the precision of a professional who has already mastered the task. Each new Roadstore project demonstrates this a little more.
