Volkswagen Transporter T6 L1H1 fitted with Exokit furniture: a versatile conversion by HOMAD in Saint-Brieuc
A Volkswagen Transporter designed for modularity and travel
The Volkswagen Transporter T6 in L1H1 version is one of the most sought-after models for van conversions. Compact, maneuverable, and spacious enough, it offers the perfect balance between daily practicality and conversion capacity.
In this project, entrusted to the HOMAD workshop based in Saint-Brieuc, the vehicle was completely redesigned to become a comfortable, versatile living space ready for adventure.
The client wanted a van that could be used in several configurations:
- in large equipment transport mode (bikes, motorcycle, outdoor gear)
- in travel van mode, with sleeping space already available thanks to the Camproof pop-top roof
- with the possibility of adding a convertible bench seat later, according to evolving needs
The result: a bright, well-insulated T6 L1H1 equipped with an Exokit unit that perfectly optimizes space.
Insulation and lining of the Volkswagen T6: meticulous work by HOMAD
Even before installing the furniture, HOMAD carried out complete insulation work to ensure optimal comfort, summer and winter alike.
High-end insulation
The workshop combined two complementary materials:
- Sprayed cork Soliège on the bodywork to reduce thermal bridges and vibrations
- Sheep wool and felt finish for effective thermal and sound insulation
This mixed approach results in a very pleasant living space, quiet and naturally temperature-regulated.
"Light oak" plywood side linings
The client chose a warm interior lining in oiled plywood with a "light oak" finish. This look brings a lot of light and harmonizes perfectly with the natural and refined spirit of a converted van.
The floor, also insulated, was covered with a resistant and easy-to-maintain coating.
No ceiling: a thoughtful choice
HOMAD deliberately chose not to install a ceiling, as the Transporter was equipped with a Camproof pop-top roof Camproof.
This choice allows:
- to maintain maximum headroom in the lower part
- to keep easy access to the roof fixings
- to avoid unnecessary thickness
A coherent layout, optimized around the pop-top roof.
An Exokit side unit designed for daily life and travel
A "light oak" unit with an oiled ebony worktop
For this project, HOMAD installed a left side Exokit unit, delivered with an oiled plywood "light oak" finish, in harmony with the side panels.
The worktop was oiled with a dark "ebony" finish, creating an elegant contrast between the warmth of light wood and the depth of dark tones.
A custom cut-out to integrate a sink
At HOMAD's request, Exokit made the cut-out for the worktop to integrate a sink.
This positioning allows for:
- simple and natural access to water
- a comfortable meal preparation area
- ideal ergonomics even in an L1
A unit that leaves a vast central space
One of the advantages of this configuration is the fluid circulation in the van:
- space to transport a bike, motorcycle or bulky equipment
- a clear area that allows the van to be used daily
- the possibility of adding a convertible bench seat later for a second sleeping area
The Exokit unit provides essential storage, while allowing great modularity for the user.
A compact and optimized electrical system
HOMAD installed a complete electrification of the vehicle by intelligently distributing the components to lose no usable space.
The electrical system consists of:
- elements housed under the driver's seat
- another part integrated at the wheel arch
- the remote Webasto refrigerator motor also installed on the wheel arch
This technical installation allows for:
- comfortable autonomy
- keeping the Exokit unit entirely available for storage
- avoiding visual or functional clutter
Clean and very well integrated work, typical of HOMAD's projects.
Installation of the Webasto Isotherm 42L refrigerator
HOMAD chose a Webasto Isotherm 42-liter refrigerator, a compact yet powerful model, perfect for a Volkswagen Transporter L1.
Thanks to a remote motor on the wheel arch, this fridge:
• maximizes interior capacity
• reduces noise pollution
• optimizes storage volumes
An ideal solution for a vehicle where space must be used intelligently.
A modular layout for bikes, motorcycles or future sleeping space
This layout is distinguished by its total versatility.
The client wanted to keep maximum space to transport:
- bikes
- a motorcycle
- outdoor or professional equipment
The choice of a light and modular layout perfectly meets this need.
And thanks to the pop-top roof, the van already has an integrated and comfortable sleeping area.
If, later, the client wishes to add a convertible bench seat, the space is already provided to accommodate it.
A Transporter designed to evolve with usage.
