The VW Transporter T5/T6 L1H1: A specific roof lining
The Transporter stands out from other utility vehicles due to the particular shape of its roof lining—slightly curved and with well-positioned side reinforcements. This ceiling is CNC cut based on the template taken from T5 and T6 (identical dimensions), with pre-cuts engraved on the back for functional locations.
T5 and T6 Compatibility
The T5 and T6 generations share the same interior dimensions for the roof lining: a single template covers both versions. Simply check your length (L1)—this ceiling corresponds to the short version.
Material: 5 mm Poplar Plywood
Lightweight, flexible, and easy to work with a jigsaw. The low density of poplar prevents any excess weight on the Transporter's roof, particularly useful if your conversion includes a roof rack or roof bars.
Insulation and Installation
The Transporter's structure allows easy access to the transverse roof ribs for screwing. Insulate the roof lining first (rock wool or sprayed PU), then screw the two ceiling panels with 3.5×25 mm self-drilling screws into the ribs. For a professional result, M4 inserts crimped into the ribs allow for clean removal.
Technical Questions
Is this ceiling compatible with a pop-top roof? No—the ceiling is designed for fixed-roof versions. A pop-top roof alters the overall dimensions and structure of the roof lining.
L1H1 vs L2H1: What's the difference for the ceiling? The length of the panels changes. The transverse profile of the roof lining is identical between the two lengths.
Can a roof fan (Maxxair, Fan-Tastic) be installed? Yes, by drilling an opening in the ceiling to the dimensions of the fan. The poplar is easily cut to the template.
