Volkswagen T6 L1H1 white: full Homad Van and Exokit conversion
This white Volkswagen Transporter T6 L1H1 was entrusted to Homad Van in 2021 for a complete conversion. The program included: high-performance natural insulation, Exokit birch plywood interior linings, a side unit with a clic-clac bench, and a Victron electrical system. A project where every detail was thought out for on-board comfort.
The project: a T6 L1H1 transformed from the bare shell
The starting base is a Transporter T6 in the short version with a normal roof (L1H1), a compact and versatile size highly appreciated for van conversions. Homad Van, an installer specializing in van and panel van conversions, took charge of all the work: insulation, linings, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
The objective: a comfortable, durable, and aesthetically coherent interior, with natural materials and meticulous finishes.
Insulation: sprayed cork, sheep's wool, and felt
Insulation is one of the most crucial steps in a conversion. Here, Homad Van opted for a combination of three complementary natural materials.
Sprayed cork was applied directly to the metal shell. This material offers very good thermal inertia, interesting acoustic properties, and total sealing against thermal bridges, even in complex-shaped areas. Sheep's wool was then placed in the cavities of the walls and ceiling: excellent thermal conductivity, humidity regulation, and natural breathability. Finally, felt covered the structural pillars of the vehicle, areas often neglected yet important for the overall acoustic quality of the cabin.
Exokit interior linings: floor, walls, and ceiling
Once the insulation was installed, Homad Van fitted the Exokit interior linings specific to the T6 L1H1. The pack includes the 9 mm birch plywood floor, 5 mm poplar plywood side walls, and 5 mm poplar plywood ceiling, each custom-cut for this size.
The furniture and side walls were protected with a "hint of white" tinted linseed oil, which preserves the warmth of natural wood while giving it a visual lightness suitable for a small space. The ceiling, table, and worktop, on the other hand, received a darker, contrasting "concrete grey" tinted linseed oil, which visually grounds the whole without weighing down the space. The sliding curtains were ordered in an aluminum color, in keeping with the white of the bodywork and the neutrality of the interior tones.

The left side unit and the clic-clac bench
Homad Van assembled the Exokit left side unit designed specifically for the T5/T6 L1H1. This unit integrates a clic-clac bench covered with grey fabric cushions, which transforms into an extra bed in a few seconds.
To optimize the use of the front space, a swivel base was installed on the double bench seat of the driver's cabin. By swiveling the seats inwards, a large lounge-dining area is created around the central table, ideal for meal breaks or relaxing evenings.

The Victron electrical system and plumbing
The electrical installation was entrusted to the Victron system, a benchmark in autonomous conversion. The setup includes the usual equipment: auxiliary battery management, 12V and 230V sockets, integrated LED lighting, and refrigerator power supply. This type of installation allows for comfortable and safe use, even with intensive use over several days.
Homad Van also installed a complete plumbing circuit: fresh water tank and grey water tank, integrated sink, and outdoor shower. The latter is particularly appreciated for outdoor excursions, cleaning equipment, or a quick shower before getting back on board.
The result
The T6 L1H1 delivered in 2021 features a coherent and well-executed interior. The "hint of white" and "concrete grey" tinted wood finishes provide a neutral and warm palette. The Victron electrical system guarantees serene autonomy. The swivel base transforms a compact van into a real living space as soon as the engine is off.
